Sicko Prayers

you know, as a kid, i never went to church with my family, primarily because my family never went to church. but i did go to church with my friend Jenna, catholic mass with my friend Chris and synagogue with my friend Shai. and in college, i've studied everything from Buddhism to Islam. my first years in college i rejected my parents' token Christmas tree. my mom is agnostic, so i thought it silly we celebrate Christmas, so i told her i'd celebrate the winter solstice with her. over time, that changed, like my love for Latin American revolutions. so i decided i'd become a Jew. but that's a serious choice, so i decided to put it off until i could 'commit myself without turning back'. but then i found Islam and my inner peace. i discovered my inner Muslim. but then i made the mistake of watching Bill Maher's Religulous. and finally i found my calling, i am truly as agnostic as i started. i believe in spiritual things, i'm just confused about which spiritual things i believe in. but that doesn't mean, every once in awhile, when i'm in a real bind, i don't resort to prayer, because i do. and because somethings are definitely worth praying about. therefore, i thought tonight we could engage in a little public prayer on my behalf - together. i don't really care what your religion is, as long as you believe in the greater good of humanity, you are on the side of good karma.

so here are my prayers, in no particular order.

dear god(s) and goddess(es) and other spiritual beings or things... i find myself between a very large rock and a very hard place. and i believe many of my comrades are also downright downtrodden. therefore, i beg and plead for you to hear me out and not necessarily grant my wishes (although that'd be nice)... but if only to lend an ear, i'd be most appreciative...

so genies and ghosts alike, here's what's on my worrisome mind:

  1. if Barack Obama isn't elected president of the United States of America, I among many, may extinguish all hope forever. he is the physical embodiment of all my hopes for america in the future. and although it goes against all sicko logic to places all one's eggs in one basket, i am human and thus, i have done so. therefore, if any celestial spirits are out there that would like to lend assistance in safe-guarding the election so as that the republicans don't commit errors such as those of 2000, i'd be very grateful. now, i'm not asking for a particular outcome (although that'd be nice) but i'd settle for a fair, honest election above all else. let the true will of the american people be heard, whatever that may be.
  2. i've been awfully sick lately, and although selfish since many are sick, a little good health until graduation (december) would receive the utmost gratitude from namely, myself.
  3. world peace, a lofty wish, but nonetheless always worth putting in the top 5.
  4. and world peace, once more for good luck.
  5. and what the heck, world peace, because it's really important
  6. please, please lets do something about the environment. i know the world can't last forever, but lets not totally destroy the place before its had its last dance. and it'd be a horrible reputation to be the organism that ruined the party for everyone else. so perhaps lets get a move on those alternative energies. may you spiritual beings could do some lobbying in Washington?
  7. watch over ted kennedy, he's a good man and deserves some irish luck.
  8. please watch over the small fish everywhere, they are especially hard hit this year, and i can't stand to see any more injustice in this world.
  9. a lot more understanding across and within cultures, please.
  10. acceptance of all beings, no matter what shape, size, color, make, etc.
  11. barack obama for president, again for good luck.
  12. a general relief of poverty, famine and disease.
  13. more food for more children worldwide.
  14. more shelter for more children worldwide
  15. a cure for diabetes, lupus, celiac disease, cancer, HIV/AIDS, TB, sars, enough with the bird flu, paraplegia, dementia, Parkinson's disease, MS, arthritis, malaria, West Nile virus, river blindness, malnourishment, hepatitis, etc.
  16. do something about all the prejudice and stigma in this world. please.
  17. don't let anyone overturn the roe v. wade decision.
  18. end segregation of all sorts everywhere.
  19. please hide all the violent weapons in this world... and preferably disarm all Nukes. and biological weapons... okay lets just say weapons in general, inclusive of nasty words used to violate people.
  20. please make all forms of education free, fair, and accessible to everyone.
  21. worldwide shelter from the various "storms"
and finally, thanks to all you spiritual beings who are listening out there. your time and ears are most graciously appreciated... considering most people, most places are never heard.

oh wait, one more request,

that each and every soul possess a loud, clear, audible and powerful voice for their experience. because every voice counts.

thanks and goodnight.

yours truly,
Just another Sicko
